إن مباحث الميتافيزيقيا (ما بعد الطبيعة) وإن كانت تضرب بجذورها في عمق الفكر البشري منذ العصور الأولى للخلقة، غير أنّ الذي قولب هذه المباحث وحدّدها بأطرٍ خاصة وأرسى دعائمها؛ إنّما هو المعلم الأول أرسطو.
ومنذ الظهور الأول وإلى يومنا الحاضر؛ قد شهد هذا المصطلح جدلاً كثيراً في الوسط الفكري والمعرفي، وكلٌّ فسّره على ضوء منطلقاته المعرفية وخلفياته الثقافية، مما أدّى إلى تكثّر الأقوال والمدارس وإلى أنكاره في بعض الأحيان.
في هذا الكتاب يحاول المؤلف الدكتور مهدي قوام صفري الرد على مقولة كانط في عدم إمكانية الميتافيزيقيا، من خلال استكناه النصوص الفلسفية الإسلامية والغربية واستنطاقها؛ ليصل بالمآل إلى إمكانية الميتافيزيقيا بل ضرورتها.
