إن في الليل للحظات يشعر فيها الإنسان المؤمن بالأمان والاطمئنان وانشراح الصدر، فيطمئن قلبه بذكر خالقه، كالتسبيح والتهليل والاستغفار، فقلبه يطيب ويركن إلى ذكر الله، فتطمئن نفسه بإحساسها بالصلة بالله، والأنس بجواره، والأمن في جانبه وحماه، وتطمئن من قلق الوحدة وحيرة الطريق، وتطمئن بالشعور من كل اعتداء ومن كل ضر. إن هذا الاطمئنان بذكر الله يشعر به المجتهد بالليل حقيقة عميقة يعرفها الذي خالطت بشاشة الإيمان قلوبهم فاتصلت بالله، يعرفونها ولا يملكون بالكلمات أن ينقلوها إلى الآخرين الذين لم يعرفوها لأنها لم تنقل بالكلمات، إنما تسرى في القلب ميستروحها ويهش لها ويستريح إليها.
وليس أشقى على وجه هذه الأرض من يحرمون طمأنينة الأنس بالله، ليس أشقى ممن ينطلق في هذه الأرض مبتوت الصلة بما هو حوله في الكون، لأنه انفصم من العروة الوثقى التي تربطه بما حوله في الله خالق الكون وبالرغم من المزايا العظيمة التي يتميز بها هذا الموضوع إلا أنه لا يوجد حتى الآن كتاب شامل جمع الأحاديث النبوية التي جاءت عن النبي (صلى الله عليه وسلم) في التجهد. هذا النقص هو الذي دفع المؤلف الدكتور محمد بن عزوز إلى تدوين كتابه هذا الذي جمع فيه أربعين حديثاً في التجهد وقيام الليل معتنياً بعد الجمع بشرح هذه الأحاديث وتخريجها من مظانها الحديثية الأصيلة، وبعد ذلك بالتعريف يكتب الأربعين حديثاً وبأشهر المؤلفات التي جمعتها.
