في لحظة ما من لحظات تطور القراءة العربيّة يكون الالتفات إلى منجزاتها لمراجعتها، ولتصحيح مسارها بتصويب ما علق بها من أخطاء أو شابها من انحرافات أهمّ بكثير من مواصلة إنجاز المكتسبات الجديدة والتّمادي في تحقيق التّراكم الكميّ. تتغيا هذه الدّراسة بواسطة مقولات التلقي استنطاق جملة من القراءات التي تشكّلت حول نصوص الجاحظ البلاغية، وتفجّرت حولها منذ ذلك الوقت، قراءات متباينة، وتفسيرات متعارضة، والدّراسة بذلك ليست بحثا في الخطاب البلاغي الجاحظي بالدّرجة الأولى، بقدر ما هي بحث في أشكال التّلقي وأنماطه التي دارت حول مقولاته البلاغية؛ وذلك من أجل الكشف عن الدّور الكبير الذي تمارسه القراءة والتّلقي في «تصنيع الأطروحة البلاغية» وتحديد قيمتها ومعناها، كما نرّوم من وراء هذه الدّراسة التحقق من أنّ القراءات لأيّ مقول بلاغي ونقدي إنّما هي محكومة بأفقها التّاريخيّ وسياقها الثّقافيّ، فهي تتحرّك وَفق ما يتيحه لها أفقها وسياقها من «ممكنات»، وفي المقابل فإنّها ترضخ تحت الإكراهات التي يمارسه عليها هذا الأفق وهذا السّياق، وهو ما يجعل من دراسة أنماط التّلقي وسيلة جيّدة ليس لاستكشاف طبيعة الخطابات البلاغية الجاحظية فحسب، بل لاكتشاف طبيعة الإكراهات التي يمارسها أفق الانتظار في توجيه القراءات، وأثر هذه القراءات في تصنيع المقول وتشكيل دلالته.
