منحت كُتبَ النكت كُتبَ مصطلح الحديث مزيداً من الدِّقَّة والتحقيق، وأزاحت إشكالات، وأجابت عن تساؤلات مما يجعل إستحضارها عند دراسة علم المصطلح ضروريّاً.
من جهة أخرى كاتب هذه النكت فقيه أصولي درب على صنوف التأليف، له مشاركة في الحديث، فدخل مادة النكت مدخلاً مختلفاً عن المعتاد، إذ مزجها بأسلوب أصولي قويّ، يتسم بقوّة المناقشة وإستخدام المقارنة، أي: مقارنة قضايا المصطلح بقضايا الفقه والأصول، وهذا بارز في الكتاب، مع محاولة البقاء مع مناهج المحدِّثين وإستعمالها موازية لمناهج الأصوليين.
يخضع تحقيق التراث عادة لقسمين أساسيين تقتضيهما طبيعة المادة: قسم للدراسة، وقسم التحقيق؛ فالأول دراسة في حياة المؤلِّف وفي الكتاب الذي يزمع على تحقيقه، وبيان أهميته ومنهج المؤلِّف فيه؛ والثاني في مواد الكتاب من حيثية النُّسَخِ الخطِّية والمعلومات المتعلقة بها من أصولها ومصادرها، وصحّتها، وتحقيق النصّ الخطي وفق القواعد العلمية المتبعة.
تشتمل الدراسة على مقدمة مختصرة وقسمين رئيسيين: المقدمة: وفيها الإشارة إلى بعض المناهج النقد عند المحدِّثين ونشأة علم المصطلح بإختصار؛ القسم الأول: في ابن الصلاح وكتابه علوم الحديث؛ القسم الثاني: في الزركشي وكتابه النكت؛ ويهتم التحقيق بالقضايا الآتية: 1-اسم الكتاب، وإثبات نسبته إلى المؤلف، 2-وصف نُسَخِه الخطية، وذِكْر مصادرها وما يتعلق بها، 3-تحقيق النص حسب القواعد المنهجية العلمية المشهورة، والمتبعة لدى المحقّقين، تخريج الآيات القرآنية، تخريج الأحاديث النبوية المصرّح بها في المتن، تخريج الآثار الموقوفة والمقطوعة، توثيق النصوص والنقول التي يوردها المؤلِّف، ترجمة الأعلام الواردة في المتن عدا الصحابة لشهرتهم، مناقشة ما يورده المؤلّف من القضايا العلمية في حالة إختياره لرأي دون آخر.
