كتاب " السجل العثماني " ، أو "تذكرة مشاهير العثمانيين " .
من مؤلفات الأستاذ " محمد ثريا بك " ، وهو مصدر من مصادر تاريخ الدولة العثمانية وولاياتها .
ويصنف من كتب التراجم. ولأهميته كمصدر في تاريخ الحرمين الشريفين ، استخرجت منه تراجم مشاهير ولاية الحجاز في فترة حكم الدولة العـثمانية ، والتي بلغت 1909 ترجمة . تظهر أهمية كتاب السجل العثماني من خلال سيرة مؤلفه الأستاذ محمد ثريا بك ، الذي عمل مترجما مدة طويلة في القصر السلطاني العثماني ، لإجادته اللغات العربية والفارسية والفرنسية، إلى جانب لغته التركية الأصلية ، واللغات القريبة منها وهي الجغتائية والتتارية .
وبحكم وظيفته السابق ذكرها ، استفاد المؤلف من المعلومات الموجودة في إدارة القصر السلطاني عن موظفي الدولة العثمانية في كافة الولايات ، مما لم يتح لغالب المؤلفين الترك في هذا المجال التاريخي ، وهذا في حد ذاته يبين ويؤكد أهمية كتابه " السجل العثماني " من الناحية العلمية .
استوعب فيه الأستاذ محمد ثريا تراجم المشاهير في الدولة العثمانية ، التي تمتد زمنيا من سنة 699 - 1327هـ ، (وهي سنة وفاته كما سبق بيانه) ، أي 627 عاما ، مما يجعل الكتاب مصدرا مهما من مصادر تاريخ الدولة العثمانية عامة ، وولاية الحجاز خاصة، فقدم لنا ما لم يسجل غالبه في المدونات التاريخية العربية لولاية الحجاز في الفترة العثمانية.
وإذا ضُمت التراجم التي وردت في كتاب السجل العثماني ، إلى التراجم التي وردت في المدونات التاريخية العربية، ستتضح الصورة التاريخية الحقيقية لتاريخ الحرمين الشريفين وولاية الحجاز في فترة الدولة العثمانية في كافة المجالات.
ويجد الباحثون المادة العلمية المطلوبة لدراساتهم عن الحرمين الشريفين وولاية الحجاز.
