إن الدافع الرئيسي للكتابة في هذا الموضوع هو عدم وجود أي دراسة شاملة في الوطن العربي عن المخطوطات والطائفة الإسينية.
يعد إكتشاف مخطوطات البحر الميت سنة 1947م الحدث الأبرز في حقل الإكتشافات الأثارية في القرن العشرين، ومن هنا بدأت الدراسات باللغات الأجنبية تتوالى من أجل كشف خبايا هذه المخطوطات، وعلاقتها بالنصوص التوراتية المعتمدة والمتداولة بين اليهود والمسيحيين في الوقت الحاضر.
تناولت هذه الدراسة أهمية مخطوطات البحر الميت كونها تعد أعظم إكتشافات العصر الحديث كما وصفها وليم (البرايت 1891- 1971م) خبير المخطوطات الشهير في جامعة (جونز هوبكنز)، وبالتالي تمثل شأناً كبيراً لكل من يهتم بالعهد القديم أي المنتمون بشكل أو بأخر لأي من الديانات السماوية الثلاث (اليهودية، المسيحية، الإسلام) إذ تربطنا هذه المخطوطات بالحقبة التي تشكلت فيها الديانتان اليهودية والمسيحية في الشرق الأوسط القديم، وبعض المخطوطات الطائفية تكشف عن شكل مختلف للديانة اليهودية لم يتمكن من البقاء بعد دمار هيكل أورشليم على يد الرومان سنة 70م، وتمثل هذه المخطوطات إنتقالاً مذهلاً بين ديانة العهد القديم العتيقة واليهودية الحبرية.
