لقد أدّت عوامل عديدة إلى وصول بعض تراثنا العربي مشوهاً متضمناً لغير قليل من الأوهام، من ذلك نسبة بعض المصنفات إلى غير أصحابها الحقيقيّين، أو إغفال عزوها إلى أحد مطلقاً؛ الأمر الذي يلزم المحققين التّعرف على المؤلف الحقيقي للمادّة المحققة، برغم أنه قد يكون شيئاً في غاية الصعوبة أحياناً، وهو ما أثبته هذا الكتاب ـ ببابيه وفصوله التسعة؛ من خلال دراسة تطبيقية على تسعة مصادر أدبية: خمسة مخطوطة، وأربعة مطبوعة. وقد توصلت بعض فصول هذا الكتاب إلى رد بعض المؤلفات إلى أصحابها، ونفت نسبة بعض المؤلفات عمّن نسبت إليهم؛ بواسطة دراسة نقدية تحقيقية متعمقة، كما سعت جاهدة إلى التوصل إلى معرفة مؤلفي المصادر المخطوطة غير المنسوبة؛ عبر إلقاء الضوء على هذه المخطوطات، والتعريف بها، وبمحتواها، وبيان أهميتها.
