يحوي هذا الكتاب "صيد الخاطر" معالم هامة من التأملات والأفكار والخواطر لا يستغني عنها كل مسلم في فهمه لعقيدته، وعبادته، وحياته وسلوكه مع الناس.
فالمؤلف من خلال معاناته وتجاربه وتأملاته، يبصّر القارئ بكثير من المزالق التي يقع فيها كثير من الناس فيسيؤون ولا يحسنون، ويضرّون ولا ينفعون، ويتوهمون أنهم يحسنون صنعاً وذلك بسبب ما لُبّس عليهم من سوء فهم أو سوء عمل، أو تقليد أعمى لا تبصّر فيه ولا تسديد، ثم يُجلّي الصواب في هذه المسائل بالضوابط الصحيحة من النصوص الشرعية والقواعد العلمية والحجج العقلية، حتى يتبين وجه الحق فيها.
وتكاد تجد له في كل شأن من شؤون الحياة تجربة أو نظرة أو فكرة... حتى يستغرق كل إهتمامات الإنسان وعلاقاته ورغباته ونوازعه... بل ربما استشف مشاعر نفسه فأماط اللثام عنها بصدق ثم ناقشها وكأنها شيء منفصل عنه، ثم حكم لها أو عليها بموضوعية وبمعايير إسلامية أصيلة.
ولم يغفل تقديم نصائحه من خلال تجاربه الشخصية في جميع العلاقات الإجتماعية، كالزوجة والوالدين والولد والصديق والأقارب والجار والناس جميعاً، إلى غير ذلك مما يضيق المقام بتعداده مما يحتاج إليه كل مسلم.
ولأهمية هذا الكتاب، اعتنى بتحقيقه الأستاذ محمد الأصقر حيث خرّج الآيات القرآنية، ومعظم الأحاديث الشريفة، وشرح الكلمات الغامضة، ووضع عناوين للفصول، دون الإخلال بتسلسل أرقام الفقرات كما وردت أصلاً.
