غنيت الدراسة بكيفية تمثل الشعر العربي لمفهوم الأمة على وفق الفهم القومي، وقد استندت الدراسة إلى أن الخطاب القومي بشكل عام مروية كبرى، وما يقدمه من متون نقدية يمكن أن ينظر إليها في الإطار ذاته، فهي تؤكد تلك المروية وتخدمها بشكل مباشر وغير مباشر، فثمة تعدد في المرويات في الخطاب القومي، تتجاور حينا وتتداخل أخرى؛ لتؤدي الهدف ذاته، فثمة مروية نقدية، ومروية أخرى أكثر شمولا وأهمية لدى القوميين وهي المروية السياسية، وهي ما سعت المروية النقدية إلى إظهارها مرة، والى إضمارها مرة أخرى. وما يؤكد وجود المروية الكبرى استناد الخطاب النقدي القومي إلىتحولات الزمن التاريخي منذ الجاهلية حتى العصر الحديث. وإلى جوار ذلك ثمة وعي مستمر بالهوية، تحاول أن تستظهره تلك المروية في تفسيرها للنصوص، وهو ما يؤدي في النهاية إلى تخلق زمن آخر، أطلقت عليه الدراسة بالزمن القومي).
