بَدَأَتِ الدراساتُ الجماليّةُ تأخذُ موقِعًا متقدِّمًا في دراسة الأدب، ومن الممكن الإفادةُ منها في تناول الشعر من جوانبَ جديدةٍ، وهذه الدراساتُ تخلقُ أُفُقًا أرحبَ للمعنى الشعريِّ، وتعمَلُ على منْع تأطيره ضمنَ مقولاتٍ ونظريّاتٍ ثابتةٍ، بل تَفيدُ من النظريّات والعلوم الجديدة، ممّا يُعطي إضافاتٍ جديدةً، يُمكِنُ أنْ يُبنَى عليها في المستقبل، وهذا يشجِّعُ على دراسة الشعر من وِجهةٍ جماليّة. وتهتمُّ الدراساتُ الجماليّةُ للأدب بالقيَم التي يُلحُّ عليها أدبٌ ما، فلكلِّ أدبٍ قيَمُه الجماليّةُ، ولكلِّ أديبٍ توجُّهُه القيَميُّ الدالُّ على شخصيّته، أو على مجتمعه، أو على عصره؛ وقيمةُ (المأسويّ) إحدى هذه القيَم الجماليّة، وهي قيمةٌ مُجَسِّدَةٌ لمفهومِ المأساة، تُوصَفُ بحُزْنٍ عظيمٍ، ناتِجٍ من مصيبةٍ صادِمةٍ من واقعٍ موضوعيٍّ، تولِّدُ صِراعًا، تبدو آثارُهُ الظاهرةُ في بيئةِ الكائنِ أو بدنِهِ، فتؤثِّرُ في سلوكِهِ ونفْسيَّتِهِ، خالِقةً الدافعَ المُحرِّضَ على وضْعِ القِيَمِ الأعلى موضعَ القِيَمِ الأدنى، لإعادةِ التَّوازنِ النَّفْسِيِّ والجماليّ، وذلك بتحويلِ المأساةِ إلى اتِّجاهٍ جماليٍّ، ينفي الإحباطَ واليأسَ، ويسعى إلى إبرازِ الذَّاتِ والتَّكَيُّفِ معَ واقعِها.
