يشتمل هذا الكتاب على ثلاث بحوث تناولت ثلاث قضايا كالتالي: الخط العربي: أصل الخط العربي مشكلة في التاريخ معقدة، تناولها بعض المؤرخين بالرواية تارة، وبالتخمين تارة أخرى، ويرجع ذلك إلى تاريخ الشعب العربي في الجاهلية وعلاقته آنذاك بالشعوب الأخرى من حوله، فهم لم يقيدوا كتاباً إلا نتفا يسيرة جداً أثبتها الشعراء في قصيدهم، وتناقلها الرواة محرفة ومزيدة على الأجيال إلى أن جاءت إلينا غامضة متناقضة.
الورق: وعاء من أوعية نقل العلم والحضارة كان له الأثر البالغ في تطور العلوم وإنتقال الحضارة وتسارع وتيرتها، ويُحاول البحث الإجابة عن بعض الإشكاليات، والتي منها إختلاف المؤرخين والباحثين في تحديات الأزمان التي انتقل منها الورق من الصين للعرب ثم الأندلس ثم العالم الأوروبي، وأسماء وأنواع الورق ومصانعه في العراق والشام ومصر وبلاد المغرب والأندلس، والمواد المُستخدمة في صناعته، وطُرق صناعته اليدوية والآلية، ومُعالجة الورق المحتوي على المداد، والعلامات المائية، وإختلاف أسعاره، والإستخدامات المُختلفة له، والنتائج المُترتبة على تلك الصناعة، وعزوف العرب عن صناعة هذه المادة بعدما كانوا روادها، بل وخراب مصانعهم في الحواضر العربية الإسلامية، وإنتهاء تصديره إلى الغرب، بل انتهى الحال إلى أنهم أخذوا يستوردونه من الغرب الذي أخذ على عاتقه صناعته وتطويره، ومن ثم تصديره لمن أخذوا عنهم.
