د محمدالتونجي دكتور في اللغة العربية وكاتب ولد في مدينة حلب عام 1933 وتلقى تعليمه فيها وتخرج من جامعة دمشق حاملا الإجازة في اللغة العربية ودبلوم التربية ونال الدكتوراه في الادب الفارسي من طهران وأخرى من الجامعة اليسوعية وعمل مدرسا ووكيلا لكلية الاداب ونال العديد من الجوائز من مختلف الدول وله مؤلفات كثيرة.وهو يدرس اليوم بجامعة الشهباء الخاصة بحلب مادة أخلاقيات المهنة .

تأتي أهمية هذا الكتاب من موضوعه، ومن العصر الذي حَدّده. فالكتب التي ذكرت النساء شاعرات وغير شاعرات كثيرة، بين الجاهلية والإسلام. وكذلك الكتب التي ذكرت النساء منذ الجاهلية حتى العصر الحاضر. غير أن الهدف الذي تطلع الكتاب إليه بكرٌ، لتخصصه في حقبة معينة هي عصر النبوة ولتوسعه فيها، وقد ضم ترجمات وأشعار لمعظم النساء اللواتي قلن شعراً في تلك الحقبة من الزمن. فغدا سهلاً لكل باحث ينشُد طلبه في عصر النبوة. وقد ذكر فيه المؤلف الجاهليات القريبات من عصر النبوة، وأهل الكتاب، والمخضرمات، والمشركات اللاتي متن وهن مشركات، والمنافقات، والمشركات اللاتي أسلمن وحَسُن إسلامُهن، والمسلمات الصحابيات، والشاعرات من آل البيت في زمان النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم وبعيده، والمسلمات ممن وُلدن مع آبائهن على الإسلام، كل ذلك في إطار زمني لا يزيد كثيراً على نصف قرن من الزمان.
