يضم هذا الكتاب مداخلات ندوة خاصّة عقدها المركز الفلسطيني للدراسات الإسرائيلية "مدار"، بدعم من دائرة المفاوضات في منظمة التحرير الفلسطينية، وتناولت موضوع "الدولة اليهودية" من جوانبه ودلالاته المتعددة الظاهرة والخفية، وذلك في ضوء تواتر المطلب الإسرائيلي بنيل إعتراف فلسطيني وعربي بها كشرط للتفاوض على إيجاد حل للصراع.
كما يضم مداخلات أخرى تسلط الضوء على الموضوع نفسه من زوايا إضافية، وتسعى في الوقت ذاته لتفنيد معظم الطروحات التي تتكئ عليها النخب السياسية والأكاديمية في إسرائيل لتسويغ هذا المطلب الذي شهد كبيراً من التصعيد خلال الأعوام القليلة الفائتة.
وتتفق جميع المداخلات على أن تشديد تلك النخب على الإعتراف بإسرائيل دولة يهودية من الجانب الفلسطيني يهدف، من ضمن أشياء أخرى، إلى رفع سقف المطالب الإسرائيلية إلى مستويات جديدة أقرب إلى التعجيز، بمقدار ما يهدف إلى حسم صراع وجدل سياسيّ داخل إسرائيل نفسها، وبالأساس مع فلسطيني 48، وفضلاً عن ذلك فإنه يهدف إلى أن يحسم مستقبل الصراع عبر إستدراج الجانب الفلسطيني لقبول الرواية الصهيونية ولا سيما بشأن ما ارتكب بحقه في الماضي من آثام التشريد والإقصاء.
