يعد هذا الكتاب أوب بحث متكامل يصدر حول تركمان العراق وأدبهم. وقد صدر أولاً باللغة الألمانية إذ كان في الأصل أطروحة للدكتوراه قدمها المؤلف باللغة الألمانية بإشراف اثنين من علماء التركيات وهما بنزنك وبراندز. والبحث ينصب على موضوع بداية أدب النثر لدى تركمان العراق ولا تتناول الجوانب التاريخية. قدم له المؤلف بذكر موجز لتاريخ التركمان في العراق بالاستناد إلى المصادر الأكثر مدعاة للثقة.
والتركمان في العراق هم ثالث قومية رئيسية في العراق بعد العرب والأكراد. والباحث يركز في هذا البحث على أدب النثر لدى تركمان العراق والذي بدأ بالنشوء ليأخذ محله إلى جانب الشعر القديم والشعر الشعبي.
وتتضمن الدراسة أيضاً جميع القصص القصيرة التي نشرت حتى نهاية عام 1969 في مجلة الإخاء التركمانية والباحث يشير إلى أن تسمية هذا الأدب بالأدب التركماني غير صائبة إذ يذهب إلى أن هناك أدباً تركياً واحداً والأدب التركماني في العراق إنما هو جزء من الأدب التركي العام. يعرض المؤلف لعدد من الأدباء التركمان وأهم أعمالهم الأدبية التي يتصدى لها بالدرس والتحليل.
ويخلص أخيراً إلى أن النثر الفني التركماني قد ساير الحركة القومية وكان وسيلة للتعبير عنها، إلا أن القصة القصيرة في هذا الأدب لم تبلغ شأواً كبيراً تستطيع به أن تعالج مشاكل المجتمع التركماني. كما يرى أن الأعمال الأدبية لهذا الأدب لم تبلغ الدرجة التي تستطيع بها أن تعكس ملامح المجتمع والأدب التركماني بشكل مرض إلا أنها تمثل سمة من سمات هذا الأدب بدأ مسيرته في دروب التطور والازدهار.
