وكان غرضنا الأساسي هو الكشف عن منزلة الجاحظ في تاريخ النثر الفني، وتحديد الدور الذي لعبه في تطوره، وتعيين الآثار المباشرة وغير المباشرة في تطور النثر الفني لدى العرب، التي ترتبت على ظهوره كشخصية أدبية كبيرة لها مكانتها الواضحة في تاريخ الأدب العربي، لأنه يعتبر أكبر شخصية أدبية تركزت فيها أكبر حركة تطورية أدبية عرفها النثر الفني في تاريخها الطويل، فهذه هي الحقيقة التي دفعتنا إلى إختيار موضوع "الجاحظ وأثره في النثر الفني".
والجاحظ من أولئك الرجال الأفذاذ الذين قلما يجود بأمثالهم الزمان، الذين نشأوا وتربوا على مائدة القراءة والكتابة والمطالعة والتحقيق والتدقيق والتفكير، واختلفوا إلى حلقات التدريس والعلماء والأدباء والأمراء العظام، وتثقفوا بثقافتهم، حتى أصبح أحد أعلام الكتاب العرب الذين رفعوا منار العلم واللغة العربية وآدابها، ودونوا فيها كتباً قيمة وكثيرة ضخمة، بتحقيق وتدقيق وحفظ وأمانة علمية أدبية إلتزمها أهل هذه الصناعة.
