أردت من وراء هذا الكتاب أن أوضح كيف أن دراسة المستقبل تشكل مجالات خصباً للبحث والنشاط الفكري لا يقل أهمية عن مجالات علمية أخرى، وأنه مجال يقوم على بناء من المعرفة والأفكار الواضحة والمنسقة وينمي تياراً للبحث الامبيريقي مما يجعل منه نظاماً فكرياً يستحق أن يدرس كبرنامج أو جزء من برنامج دراسى متخصص.
ولقد وضعت الكتاب تحت عنوان الدراسات المستقبلية؛ الأسس والاستراتيجيات. ولذلك أنقسم من حيث المكونات إلى قسمين، الأول ينصب على أسس الدراسات المستقبلية ويضم فصول ثلاثة؛ الأول تناول نماذج من الدراسات المستقبلية العالمية والمحلية، ويهتم الثاني بالمراصد في العالم، ويدور الثالث حول الأسس المعرفية والمنهجية للدراسات المستقبلية. أما القسم الثاني من الكتاب الذي أهتم بالاستراتيجيات، فأنه يضم ثلاثة فصول عالج الفصل الأول والرابع في ترتيب الكتاب، أنماط البحوث المستقبلية وبناء السيناريوهات، وأهتم الفصل الخامس، باستراتيجية توجيه التغير الإجتماعي وتعديل مساراته نحو تحديث مصر، رجاء الفصل السادس، ليتناول استراتيجية لاستدامة التنمية في صعيد مصر رؤية مستقبلية.
والكتاب بعد محاولة مبدئية في مجال الدراسات المستقبلية، ربما أتيحيت الفرصة لتنقيحها وتعديلها والإضافة إليها.
