من مواليد محافظة الغربية عام 1964.
حصل علي بكالوريوس الإعلام قسم صحافة من كلية الإعلام جامعة القاهرة عام 1986 بتقدير عام جيد جدًا مع مرتبة الشرف.
وهو عضو نقابة الصحفيين المصرية يوليو1987.
وقد التحق فور تخرجه بجريدة الوفد وعمل بها محررا تحت التمرين بقسم التحقيقات ثم انتقل إلي قسم الإخراج الصحفي أثناء فترة رئاسة تحرير الأستاذ مصطفي شردي.
وسافر إلي السعودية وعمل بجريدة الرياض السعودية.وعاد إلي مصر عام 1993.
وقد شارك بالرأي والخبرة في وضع الخطط الرئيسية لتأسيس العديد من الصحف المصرية ومنها: المصري اليوم – البلد – العالم اليوم – المال – الميدان – عين –الحلوة-الوطني اليوم.

كان محمد على خير واحداً من طليعة الكتاب الذين لم يهادنوا في كشف فساد عهد مبارك وقمعه، والذين مهدوا بذلك لـ 25 يناير.. لكننا اليوم، والثورة ليست في أفضل أحوالها، نجد أنفسنا في حاجة أن نتذكر من جديد كيف كانت أحوال البلد قد تردت إلى الحضيض في ذلك العهد.

محمد على خير كاتب بارع.. أنا مدين له بأنه أنعش ذاكرتي، ليس فقط بلحظات الوهج والإنتصار في ميدان التحرير، وإنما أيضاً بسنوات الإنكسار والمقاومة التي عشناها في عهد راح بلا رجعة..
