فبعد عرض مختصر لأهم أعمال الإغريق - وهي نقطة البداية للحضارة العربية - يتعرض الكتاب لأعمال العلماء العرب ممن ساهم منهم بالقسط الأوفر في إرساء الأصول الفكرية لعلم الميكانيكا، وممن تعرضنا له بالدراسة الشيخ الرئيس ابن سينا والعالم حسن بن الهيثم، والفيسوف أبو البركات البغدادي، والإمام فخر الدين الرازي، والعلامة المحقق نصير الدين الطوسي، ولا يعدو هذا الكتاب أن يكون عرضًا سريعًا لدراسة أكثر تعمقًا واستفاضة نرجو أن يتم نشرها قريبًا كمرجع بعنوان (علم الميكانيكا عند العرب) رجعنا فيه إلى عشرات النصوص الواردة بالمخطوطات العربية تحقيقًا وشرحًا وتحليلًا وتقويمًا، هذا وتتناول دراستنا الحالية سكون الأجسام وحركتها، ثم يعرج الحديث إلى الحركة الطبيعية البحتة وهي حركة الجسم تحت تأثير الجاذبية الأرضية، كذلك يمتد البحث إلى موضوع تصادم الأجسام وانفعالها بالمصادمة، كذا إلى دراسة العرب لمعاوقات الحركة وبيان طبيعة مقاومة الوسط الذي يتحرك فيه الجسم، ولقد توصل العربي إلى استحالة الحركة الدائمة، تلك الحركة التي تسلطت على مفكري الغرب في العصور الوسطى.
