يروق للناس هنا الحديث بحياء من الحب، لكنه حديث أشبه بذلك الذي يتعلق بأساطير الأولين، حلم عابر وحكاية مسنة. يتحدثون عن سلمى لاغرلوف كما أنها صيغة الخطأ الذي لا يتكرر أما أوغست سترنيد بيرغ، عبقريهم المتمرد في باريس، فإن عداءه للمرأة الأسوهية، يجعل الحديث عنه أشبه بالوشاية، كتبه تباع بأرخص الأثمان، الكاتب الذي لا يزال صوته يطاردهم بالخطيئة. ما كان يخشاه ستريند بيرغ قد وقع: المرأة هي مصدر كل السلطات. كانت آنا ليند لحظة أو التنبؤ به؟ كما لو أنها ترغب في اقتناصنا واحداً تلو الآخر.
الطبيعة معلم حاذق وليست أما مرتبكة، نتعلم من الطبيعة ولا نستطيع أن نسرف في الفنج والدلال والأبهة الزائفة. هناك من ينتظر منا ان نكون طوع يديه كما في لعبة الكريات الزجاجية لهيبة نفسه. العبقري دائماً هو من ينجو وحيداً، ومن يستأنف حياته في لحظة فراق، ما من أحد يجيء وما في شيء يحدث، ذلك الرجاء العظيم الذي ينطوي عليه كل هذا الصمت، ولتذهب صرخة صاموئيل بيكيت إلى العدم. إنها يوميات فاروق يوسف؛ وإن من يقرر كتابة يومياته يود أن يكون موجوداً في كل ما يكتب، فكتابة اليوميات هي خاتمة لقول وفعل تأمليين، مشاركة عقلية متأخرة لما صار جزاً من الماضي، وكاتب هذه اليوميات، وكما يقول، إنما يكتب رغبة في الكتابة وإعلاءٍ من شأنها في حياته التي صارت فجأة تسير مثل ظل إلى جانبه، لقد ترك كل شيء هناك، في بيته البعيد، وها هو ذا هنا في هذه السطور التي إنما هي نتاج ما استخرجته حواسه من كل لحظة استغراق متأمل.
