يعدّ هذا الكتاب من الأعمال القليلة جدًّا التي صدرت حتّى الآن، وتصدّت بالتّحليل للثّورة المصريّة في محاولة لاكتشاف دوافعها الحقيقيّة؛ هذه الثّورة التي عدّها محمود عبد الفضيل في تقديمه لهذا الكتاب حلقة جديدة من حلقات الثّورة الوطنيّة الديمقراطيّة منذ ثورة أحمد عرابي في سنة 1882 مرورًا بثورة 1919، حتّى ثورة 23 يوليو 1952، ووصفها بأنّها "عودة الرّوح" إلى الشّعب المصريّ بعد أربعين عامًا من الموت والرّكود السياسيّ. وهذا الكتاب يقدّم قراءة تحليليّة وتوثيقيّة متعدّدة الأبعاد لهذه الثّورة، ويضع بين أيدي القرّاء ورجال التاريخ والإعلام شبه يوميّات لهذه الحركة، الأمر الذي يتيح لنا اكتشاف قوّة الشّعارات التي رفعتها، ولا سيّما شعار "الحريّة والعدالة والكرامة"، وكذلك الزّخم الكبير للقدرة الشعبيّة الذي ربّما يجد تفسيره في حجم الغضب الذي كان كامنًا في صدور الناس الذين طالما شعروا بإهانة كرامتهم، وتجسّد في ميدان التحرير الذي بات فضاءً جديدًا للحريّة تمكّن من فتح فجوة في الجدار السياسيّ نحو التّغيير الديمقراطيّ.
