ليست الترجمة بوجه عام والترجمة الأدبية بوجهٍ خاص حديثة العهد في سلطنة عمان، فلا يخفى على الجميع ما قدمه المترجم "محمد أمين عبد الله" من إسهامات محمود في ستينيات القرن الماضي، إلا أن ثماني السنوات الماضية - وهو عمر مجموعة الترجمة - لم يتم التطرق إلى ترجمة الأدب العماني إلا على إستحياء وبمبادرات فردية بحتة، رغم إقامة سبع ندوات للترجمة، بخلاف المؤتمرات والمناشط الأخرى إلا أن فدرة ترجمة الأدب العماني ظلّت حبيسة ولم تخرج للوجود.
يتضمن هذا الكتاب أعمال ندوة أقيمت مخصصاً لترجمة الأدب العماني وقد قدمت أوراقاً شملت العديد من القضايا الشائكة في ترجمة الأدب العماني والترجمة الأدبية على وجه خاص.
انقسمت الندوة إلى إلى محورين رئيسين، ناقش الأول منهما ترجمة الأدب العماني المكتوب بلغات عمانية محلية أو بلغات غير عمانية إلى العربية، أما المحور الثاني من الندوة فناقش قضية معاصرة وهي ترجمة الأدب العماني إلى لغات أخرى أهمها الإنجليزية والفرنسية والإشكاليات اللغوية والإجتماعية والثقافية التي يقع فيها المترجم في أثناء محاولته تعريف القارئ الأجنبي بالإنتاج الأدبي العماني.
