حظيت شروح الشعر القديمة بإهتمام واسع من لدنْ نقاد محدثين، وقد حظي شعر المتنبي بشروح كثيرة، تراكمت في تراثنا النقدي: فمنها ما يقرأ النص مباشرة، ومنها ما يتعامل مع النص من خلال شرح سابق، فشرح "ابن جني" الموسوم بالفسر - على سبيل المثال - هو الذي بعث شرح الزوزني "قشر الفسر"، وكان ابن جني في شرحه يقرأ النص مباشرة، بينما الزوزني في شرحه يراوح في التعامل مع النص الشعري بين شرح البيت تارة ثم العودة إلى شرح ابن جني وتارة أخرى يبدأ بالتعامل مع الشرح.
تتعرض هذه الدراسة لكتاب "قشر الفسر" محاولة أن تكوّن لنفسها منهجية خاصة تتوافق وطبيعة الظاهرة عموماً وكتاب "قشر الفسر" خصوصاً.
وتهدف إلى الكشف عن تعامل الشراح مع الشعر من خلال شرح سابق، وتتألف من أربعة فصول، فتحاول في الفصل الأول: "مشروعة القراءة"، الإجابة عن السؤال التالي، ما مشروعية هذه القراءة في نظر الزوزني، أما في الفصل الثاني: "تقننيد قراءات ابن جني وآلياته"، فتحاول معرفة كيف استفز فهم ابن جني الزوزني؟.
وأما الفصل الثالث: "تقديم الفهم البديل: قراءة الزوزني"، فتبحث الدراسة في كيفية إنتاج الفهم، ووسائل الإحتجاج لديه؟ وأخيراً الفصل الرابع: "تقويم عمل الزوزني"، من خلال سؤالين، الأول: هل انسجم عمل الزوزني مع الأفكار التي وعدنا بها في المقدمة؟ أما الآخر: هل يختلف عمل الزوزني عن عمل ابن جني في الفهم وإجراءاته وطرائق الإحتجاج؟.
