ينشغل الباحث "سالم القمودي" في هذا الكتاب بعملية البحث في خلق الإنسان كيف خُلق ومم خُلق، في روحه واحتياجاته وذلك من وجهة نظر الدين الإسلامي. أي أنه بحث في خلق الإنسان وعلاقة الروح بالجسد وتكون النفس والجبر واختيار والثواب والعقاب والبلاء والإبتلاء والوفاة والموت والمرقد والبرزخ ونشأة القيامة في محاولة للإقتراب من الحقيقة بقدر ما يتوافر عند الباحث من معلومات وأدلة موضوعية ومن براهين منطقية، ويتكىء في هذا على ما ورد في كتاب الله (القرآن الكريم) ويعتبرها مفاتيح قدمها الله لنا.
وللإحاطة بكافة الأسئلة التي يطرحها الكتاب يقسم الباحث دراسته هذه إلى ستة أقسام وفصول عدة، يتناول في القسم الأول مسألة خلق الإنسان والنشأة الأولى، أما في القسم الثاني فيتناول علاقة الإنسان بواقعه "بين الجبر والإختيار"، ويبحث في القسم الثالث في الثواب والعقاب، ويبيّن لنا في القسم الرابع كيف يكون الإنسان ما بين الغواية والتوبة. ويخصص القسم الخامس للبحث في مرحلة الوفاة إلى الموت أو القتل. أما القسم السادس والأخير فيتناول مرحلة ما بعد الموت.
ويعتبر الكاتب أن ما توصل إليه في هذا الكتاب من آراء وأفكار وقضايا إنما هي تأملات وآراء واجتهادات يجوز عليها الخطأ والصواب وهي ليست آراءً وأفكاراً قطعية نهائية ولكنها آراء ظنية إحتمالية، يمكن أن نوافق عليها أو على بعضها، ويمكن أن نخالفها إلى غيرها، لأن علم الغيب لا يعلمه إلا الله.
