لكل شاعر هواجسه، ولكن هواجس "عبد الله الصيخان"، احتشاد موجع للنفس، وزفرات حب، وأنين اغتراب يسوقها الشاعر في نصه حتى لتظن أن القصيدة صارت وطناً، وأن الوطن تماهى والقصيدة، في وجود خاص يشبه الصحارى بتموجات كثبانها، وندرة أمطارها، وصفاء سماءها.
وعلى طريقة الشعراء القدامى يبدأ شاعرنا نصه باعتذار أقرب إلى العقاب، ويغمس ريشته في دمه ليكشف لهذا الوطن الذي سكن ضلوعه قصته، قصته مع الترحال. يقول: "همست في أذني الصحراء وأنا في المهد بأن الشمس ستمحني يوماً نافذة كي أصعد، أنفض عن عيني غبارهما، فأرى الطاووس يتيه على الإنسان ويختال، وأرى الكابوس يكمم أفواه الناس على حلمٍ منهم، وأرى الماشين على أوجههم في السوق مناديل كآبة..، وأرى في الحبس مظاليماً وأرى ظلامهم، وأرى خيطاً لا أسود، لا أبيض فأصوم...".
