هذا الكتاب هو دراسة جادة تُعنى بالتعريف بحركات الإسلام السياسي عموماً، وبالحركات الجهادية الجديدة خصوصاً، وإلقاء مزيدٍ من الضوء على مجمل الأفكار والعقائد المؤسسة لخطابها، وتحاول الوقوف على مدى انتشارها ونفوذها في العالمين العربي والإسلامي، عبر رصد وتقويم مسار تحوّلات الخطاب السلفي الذي سعى لتغييره "تنظيم القاعدة" بشقّيه الديني والسياسي من الناحية النظرية والعملية، وأثر هذا التغيير في بنية العلاقات الدولية.
لذا جاء هذا الكتاب ليحكي قصة قدرة أتباع ومؤيدي الحركات الجهادية على التصدي "للمشروع الأمريكي" الذي يهدف إلى التوسّع والهيمنة والسيطرة، ويحاول الإجابة عن السؤال: هل فشلت تلك الحركات في تحقيق أهدافها القريبة والبعيدة وعلى رأسها إقامة الدولة الإسلامية "الخلافة"، وإلحاق الهزيمة بالولايات المتحدة الأمريكية وإسرائيل على المدى القريب والبعيد؟
نحن اليوم، كعرب ومسلمين، بحاجة ماسّة إلى إعادة النظر في تجديد الخطاب الإسلامي، وبلورة مفاهيم قادرة على النهوض والتجدد، آخذين بالاعتبار مجمل التطورات والتقدم الذي حصل في حقل العلوم الإنسانية التي تمكننا من التخلص من عمليات البتر والتجزيء لمكونات التراث الإسلامي والحداثة، في سبيل ترسيخ منظومة فكرية إسلامية قوامها الحوار والاختلاف، وبناء فكر إسلامي تداولي محرر على شروط العقلانية المعاصرة، يقيها آفات العنف والجمود والتطرف الذي صبغ حياتنا الاجتماعية والسياسية، وأصبح من أبرز مكونات ثقافتنا العربية الإسلامية.
والكتاب في الأساس رسالة علمية قدمت استكمالاً لمتطلبات الحصول على درجة الماجستير في العلوم السياسية من معهد بيت الحكمة في جامعة آل البيت/ الأردن.
