يحتوي هذا الكتاب على دراسة يتحدث فيها المؤلف عن عمارة الكعبة والمسجد الحرام على مر العصور، كما ويتحدث فيها عن الرسوم التوضيحية التي رسمها المؤرخون والعلماء والرسامون للكعبة والمسجد الحرام.
وبشكل عام ينقسم الحديث في هذا الكتاب على أبواب ثلاثة: في الباب الأول تم التعرض لموضوع عمارة المسجد الحرام على مر العصور، بدءاً ببداية الخليفة وانتهاءً بالعصر الحالي، وذلك في محاولة ؟لإبراز أهم العمائر التي جرت على الكعبة والمسجد الحرام في هذه الفترة الطويلة.
وتسهيلاً للقارئ احتوى هذا الفصل على بعض الرسوم المجسمة (المناظير) للكعبة والمسجد الحرام، وعليها توضيحات بأسماء العناصر في كل عصر من العصور، وذلك حتى يتسنى للقارئ إدراك شكل الكعبة والمسجد الحرام والعناصر المكونة لها في كل عصر من العصور على حدة. أما الباب الثاني والثالث فاحتويا على دراسة للرسوم الأثرية التي جاءت عن الكعبة والمسجد الحرام في الفن الإسلامي، وخصوصاً الفن العثماني الذي اهتم رساموه بوضع عدد من هذه الرسوم، كما واحتوى هذان البابان على مقارنة لهذه الروم بأقوال المؤرخين والرحالة المعاصرين لزمن موضوع الرسوم، وذلك للوقوف على مدى صحة هذه الرسوم ودقتها وتعبيرها عن الواقع.
هذا إلى جانب احتواء البابان علماً ودراسة عنت بالبحث بالأساليب المستخدمة في عمل هذه الرسوم ومدى صحتها والرسامين الذين رسموا هذه الرسوم ومراكز إنتاجها.
