هذه الدراسة الموجزة عن الإباضية ليست عرضاً تاريخياً لقصة نشاط وتطور المذهب الإباضي، وليست دراسة مقارنة لمجمل فقههم ومختلف اجتهاداتهم.
إنها دراسة للجوانب العقدية في المذهب على ضوء ما ذهبوا إليه في مدوناتهم وعلى ضوء ما هي عليه في كتاب الله وسنة نبيه صلى الله عليه وسلم، والدراسة بشكل عام جاءت مقسمة إلى عدة مباحث مقتضبة، يمكن تلخيص عناصرها وإجمال ما انتهت إليه في الآتي: أولاً: تحليل الأصول التاريخية لما قيل المذهب إبان عصر الفتنة التي أعقبت أيام الجمل وصفين وحوراء وبروز دور الخوارج على مسرح الأحداث سياسياً وعقدياً وثير كل ذلك في تشكيل مقومات المذهب تاريخياً. ثانياً: دراسة مؤثرات الفكر العقدي بين الخوارج والإباضية على ضوء اللبس الذي يقع فيه بعض الباحثين بالربط بين الإباضية والخوارج ربطاً عقدياً متكاملاً. ثالثاً: التعريف بالمذهب بأصوله التاريخية ودلالة التسمية، رابعاً: عقد مقارنة بين ما سجله ودونه وحكم به كتاب مقالات الإسلاميين من أمثال أبي الحسن الأشعري وعبد القاهر البغدادي وابن حزم والمالطي... على إفرازات المذهب الإباضي في فرقة الربع التي نشأت في المشرق الإسلامي.
وبين الفرق الإباضية الستة التي زاغت عن الحق، كما قال أحدهم. خامساً: تناول معظم جوانب العقيدة عند الإباضية بدءا من عقيدة التوحيد وانتهاء بقضايا السمعيات. سادساً: تناول ما يتصل بالتوحيد عند المذهب من معتقدات. سابعاً: تناول عقيدة الإباضية فيما يتصل باعتقاد العلو والاستواء، وسجل عليهم تأثيرهم بالنهج الاعتزالى في اعتقاد الاستواء بالقدرة. والعلو بالحلو في كل مكان. ثامناً: تناول منهج الإباضية في عقيدة إثبات الرؤية لله تعالى في الآخرة، كما تناول منهج الإباضية في موضوع زيادة الإيمان ونقصانه ومسمى كل من إيمان والإسلام والعلاقة بينهما. تاسعاً: تناول منهج الإباضية وأفكارهم على أصحاب المعاصي صغيرها وكبيرها، كما وتناول منهج الإباضية في عقيدة (السمعيات). وفي الخاتمة تم تسجيل أهم العناصر والموضوعات العقائد التي خالف فيها الإباضية أهل السنة والجماعة.
