عانت البشرية في مسارها الطويل من كوارث جمة، وظهر وكأن الحياة على الأرض نتيجة تلك الكوارث ستفني وتزول ولكن لا تلبث بذرة الوجود أن تنتصر فتخسر الموجة تلو الموجة من تلك النائبات السود، ويسود الأرض الخصب ويعود الهدوء. ومن بطون التاريخ تلمع الذكرى، ونحن نرى زوابع وباء "الإيدز" وهي تحصد أعداداً من البشر تضاعف أرقامه كل اثني عشر شهراً. ووباء الإيدز أو باء عوز المناعة المكتسبة. لا يسلك سلوك الأمراض التى سبقته، فهو لا ينتقل كالطاعون بواسطة عضة حشرة، وهو ليس كالجدري ينتقل بتماس جلدي عابر، وليس كالأنفلونزا ينقله السعال ورذاذ العطاس، وليس كالتيفوس ينقله القمل وتلوث المياه. إنه أمر مختلف كل "الاختلاف عما سبقه من أوبئة وأمراض، فهو يسكن نطفة الرجل ومهبل المرأة وهذا ما دق في الأرض نواقيس الخطر، كونه وباء ينحشر في أفعال إنسانية حيوية في متاهات الحب ومسار الإنجاب. ووباء الإيدز المخيف يزحف بعناد لنشر مخالبه في مشارق الأرض ومغاربها، وإذا لم يظهر لقاح للوقاية منه، أو علاج يشفيه في المستقبل القريب وقبل انتهاء هذا القرن، فإن عدد الموتى بسببه سيربو على عشرات الملايين.
لقد انفجر هذا الوباء على سطح الأرض وكأنه تذكرة للناس بقانون عادل متوازن ثابت يحكم الحياة، فلا شطط ولا هوس ولا إسراف، ولأنهم في أي أمر من أمور الدنيا وإلا انقلب إلى نقيضه، فولد بدل الراحة واللذة الألم والشقاء.
هذا الكتاب يستحوذ على التفكير والمشاعر نظراً للحقائق المذهلة التي يضمها بين دفتيه.
