يتسّم هذا الكتاب بطابع الجدية والطرافة معاً، فهو يروي قصة المحاولة الانقلابية الفاشلة التي حاول مدير الشرطة علي الحجازي القيام بها عام 1950 بهدف إقصاء غريمه وزير الداخلية صالح جبر من منصبه. بينما يروي الفصل الثاني كيف أن الوصي "عبد الإله" قد انتقم من رئيس الوزراء السابق "مزاحم الأمين الباجه جي" بطرده من مجلس الأعيان لأنه وجد في نفسه الجرأة على انتقاده وانتقاد مجمل الوضع القائم. ويتحدث الفصل الثالث عن انتفاضة تشرين الثاني 1952 التأريخية ضد الطبقة الحاكمة وارتفاع شعار إسقاط النظام الملكي وقيام الجمهورية الأولى مرة في تأريخ شوارع بغداد والمدن العراقية الأخرى مما اضطر "الوصي" و"نوري السعيد" إلى الاستعانة بحيلة استدعاء رئيس أركان الجيش "نوري الدين محمود" لتولي السلطة في محاولة انقلابية مبطنة وإن كان ذلك لم يسفر إلا عن ازدياد السخط والنقمة. أما الفصل الرابع فإنه يروي حكاية الخلاف بين "عبد الإله" و"السعيد" عام 1954 ولجوء الأخير إلى لندن... و"باريس" حيث اضطر الأول إلى السفر إلى الأخيرة لاسترضائه، ويحتوي الفصل الخامس على أخطر الأسرار عن موقف "السعيد" وهو رئيس للوزراء من تأميم قناة السويس وموقف بريطانيا من نظام "عبد الناصر" وتحريض السعيد لإسقاطه. واللافت في هذا الكتاب أنه يحتوي بالإضافة إلى السرد التاريخي للأحداث على صور ووثائق في غاية الأهمية.
