بين المهرولين نحو السلام ورافعي الراية الثقافية البيضاء من جهة وبين الواقفين خلف متاريس ثقافية ثابتة تنتمي إلى عصر آخر، هناك مساحة نعتقد أنها المجال الحيوي لتجريب أفكار وتصورات وبراهين عربية مضادة لأفكار وتصورات وبراهين سليمة أو استسلامية لا تخدم مصالح العرب، ويسعى هذا الكتيب إلى احتلال موقع في هذه المساحة الفاصلة بين الطرفين.
أما حصر هذه المحاولة التجريبية في نقد دفاع حازم صاغية عن السلام فينطلق من تقدير مفاده أن ما يقوله صاغية وما يعبر عنه في كتابه بصوت عال، يقول عدد كبير من التطبيعيين بصوت منخفض، ناهيك عن جرأة النص وصراحته وصدقه. تبقى الإشارة إلى أن المقالات التي يضمها هذا الكتيب نشرت في صحيفة "النهار" البيروتية في الفترة الواقعة بين 9/12/1997 و28/1/1998 وهي تتناول الموضوعات التي عرضها حازم صاغية في كتابه "دفاع عن السلام-دار النهار 1997".
ويضم الكتيب أيضاً ملحقاً يحتوي على موضوعات ثلاثة تتصل بصورة غير مباشرة بقضايا الحرب والسلام مع إسرائيل. الموضوع الأول يتعلق غير مباشرة بقضايا الحرب والسلام مع إسرائيل. الموضوع الأول يتعلق بقضية روجيه غارودي والمحرقة (النهار-28/1/1998 و(أخبار الأدب المصرية 16-3-1998) والثاني يتناول قضية الضابط الفرنسي اليهودي الأصل الفريد دريفوس (الحياة اللندنية 15/2/1998) والثالث هو النص الحرفي لمقالة إميل زولا الشهيرة: "إني أتهم" والتي يدافع فيها عن درايفوس وهي تنشر مترجمة إلى العربية للمرة الأولى (الحياة 4/2/1998).
