لقد درست المؤلِّفة واقع هذه الفضائيات من حيث علاقتها بالسياق الذي تُنتج وتستهلك فيه برامجها فرأت أن هذه الفضائيات وقفت على تخوم التفكيك للبنى الثقافية السائدة، وبدت بالتالي عاجزة عن ولوج مرحلة البناء الثقافي البديل، لأسباب موضوعية لها علاقة بطبيعة النظام الإعلامي العالمي الأحادي النمط، وبأوضاع المجتمعات العربية القلقة، وأسباب ذاتية لها علاقة بتركيبة هذه الفضائيات الهجينة ورؤيتها الضبابية لدورها ولوظيفتها.
في هذا الكتاب تطرح الكاتبة عدداً من الأسئلة المشروعة حول قضية الإعلام والفضائيات، ثم تجيب بعمق ووضوح، مستندة في ذلك إلى خبرة طويلة في هذا الاختصاص، مما يجعل كتابها مرجعاً أساسياً في مسائل الإعلام.
