لم يعد العالم قرية كونية صغيرة ، كما قال الكاتب الكندي مارشال مكلوهان ( 1911 – 1980 م ) ، بل أصبح أصغر من حجرة جلوس يلتقي فيها العالم بفعل هذه الثورة غير المسبوقة في وسائل الإتصال التي كسرت حواجز الوقت والمسافات ، لقد قيل الكثير عن أهمية الصحافة التي وصفت بالسلطة الرابعة ، بحسب الفيلسوف الفرنسي مونتيسيكيو ، لكنها ظلت سلطة بلا أنياب نظراً لتغوّل الحكومات محاولة تدجينها حتى في أعرق الديمقراطيات .
وقد ظلت الصحافة تعاني طويلاً من جدلية العلاقة مع السلطة والرقابة ورأس المال ، وتعرض الصحفيون للملاحقة والإغتيال ، وأخيراً تكاد الصحافة الورقية تختفي من المشهد العام بعد طغيان الصحافة الإلكترونية والقنوات التلفزيونية العابرة للفضاءات ، وانتشار وسائل التواصل الاجتماعي .
لكن وسائل الإعلام المختلفة تظل مجرد أدوات ، وهي تنجح بحسب كفاءة العاملين فيها وتوافر مساحات الحرية المسؤولة والمنضبطة بعيداً عن العبثية والتضليل والتجييش وغسيل الأدمغة .
في مجال الإعلام هناك صحافيون أصحاب رسالات ، وآخرون منتفعون ؛ والمستهدف من الرسالة الإعلامية هو الإنسان الذي قد يتعرض للتنوير أو للتجهيل ، هذا الإنسان تتجاذبه مقولتان : مقولة فلاديمير لينين في بداية الثورة البلشفية في روسيا " أعطتني صحيفة ، أعطك ثورة " ، ومقولة وزير إعلام هتلر ، جوزيف غوبلز : " أعطني إعلاماً بلا ضمير أعطك شعباً بلا وعي " .
في العالم العربي ظهرت منارات إعلامية تنافس أعرق وسائل الإعلام الغربية ؛ وذلك بفضل توافر التمويل والإحترافية العالية والموضوعية في نقل الخبر وهامش الحرية ، واستطاعت إلى حد ما كسر طوق الإحتكار الغربي في تشكيل الرأي العام وفرض ثقافة الأقوياء بكل ما فيها من تناقضات وازدواجية معايير .
هذا الكتاب محاول لتسليط الضوء على واقع وسائل الإعلام في بعض الدول العربية واتجاهات المشاهدين لمحطات التلفزة ، وهو يطرح السؤال المصيري : إلى أين ؟
إنه كتاب يستحق القراءة من كل المعنيين بتشكيل الراي العام وحرية الصحافة والإنسان .
