يقدم هذا الكتاب للمعلم مصدرا موجزا ومكثف للمعرفة تم انتقاءه بشكل بسيط كمقدمة فى عسر القراءة وصعوبات القراءة. حيث يشرح الكتاب العمليات الأربعة الرئيسية للمعرفة والتفكير والتى تتمثل فى نظرية (pass) وهى (التخطيط- الانتباه/ الاستثارة- التآنى- التتابع), وكيف أعادت تلك العمليات المعرفية تعريف الذكاء وتحديد معامله, كيف غيرت النظرة التقليدية السابقة للذكاء.
يوضح الكتاب ماهية عسر القراءة؟ حيث يجيب الجزء الأول منه على الأسئلة: ماهو عسر القراءة؟ وكيف تحدث وتتطور صعوبات القراءة؟ أما الجزء الثانى: فيركز على توضيح كيفية التعامل مع عسر القراءة؟ وهل يوجد إجراء علاجى حقيقي يمكن استخدامه لعلاج عسر القراءة؟ أما الجزء الثالث: فيعطى وجهه نظر موجزة عن اعتبارات هامة معاصرة لم تغطيها التفاصيل فى أجزاء الكتاب الأخرى, وكذلك حواشى يجب على القارئ الاهتمام بقراءتها لفهم "من أين نبدأ", وماهو الموضوع الذى يكون صعب التعامل معه؟. إن هذا الكتاب لايعتبر محاضرات دراسية عن عسر القراءة وصعوبات القراءة, لكنه أعد ليوضح قائمة بسيطة تعطى بواسطة خبير.
فالكتاب لاتقتصر فائدته على المعلم فقط لكنها تساعد أيضا الاختصاصى النفسى بالمدرسة, حيث يعتبر الكتاب مقدمة توضح نظرية (pass) للعمليات المعرفية, خاصة فى حالة استخدام النظرية (pass) لتشخيص العمليات المعرفية عند ذوى الصعوبات القرائية غير المحددة سابقا بواسطة اختبارات معامل الذكاء التقليدية
كذلك يعطى نظرة موجزة وموثوق بها فى العلاج الموضعى والخارجى الحيوي للغز المستمر المسمى "عسر القراءة". هذا الكتاب سوف يوضح للاختصاصيين المدرسيين كيف يستطيعون استخدام الأساس النظرى, والذى لايتعارض مع ماتوصل له الباحثون فى هذا المجال.
