وقد سعى المؤلف في هذا الكتاب إلى تجميع وجرد وتبويب وتنظيم وتحقيق كل ما وصل إليه من أخبار ومدونات وصور ووثائق وخرائط وروايات ورسائل وأحاديث وذكريات. وقام بتدوينه بدقة في هذا الكتاب. وأصل ما ورد في الكتاب مجموعة محاضرات ألقيت في منتدى بغداد الذي كان عائداً إلى أمانة بغداد.
