يتناول المؤلف موضوعات عامة مثل النصيحة، ومصر، والمناجاة، والمدن، والحمامات، ومقارنتها بين الأدب العربي والفارسي والتركي.
عقدت في كتابي هذا موضوعات جعلتها موضع الدراسة المقارنة ولكن على أن تكون المقارنة بين أطراف ثلاثة هي أدب العرب والفرس والترك، واستوجب مني ذاك المنهج أن يكون اختياري لموضوع أو فن تلتقي فيه الآداب الثلاثة على نحو يتأتي فيه عقد الموازنة بينهما، وما كان مثل ذلك الصنيع على بيسير سيما بعد أن أجريت القلم في هذا الصدد طويلاً، أما منهج البحث في تلك الصفحات، فمنهج لي أخذت به وداومت عليه في كل ما أخرجت من كتاب وما شئت له تبديلاً منذ أعوام طوال، ومن أهم أصوله الإجتهاد بالرأي وطلب المادة في كل مظنة لوجودها في المصادر الشرقية والغربية والإجتهاد بالرأي جهد المستطاع، مما يجدر بالدارس أم يستمسك به مبدأً لا ينبغي التحول عنه، إذ به تقدم العلم خطوة أو خطوات، وبفضله يكون الخروج من الخلاف، أما خطة البحث فكانت أن جعلت الكتاب في ستة فصول هي كالتالي: (الفصل الأول: ثلاث شواعر، الفصل الثاني: النصيحة في شعر الفرس والترك والعرب، الفصل الثالث: مصر في ثلاث رحلات، الفصل الرابع: المناجاة عند بعض المتصوفة من العرب والفرس والترك، الفصل الخامس: المدن في الشعر العربي والفارسي والتركي، الفصل السادس: الحمامات في شعر الفرس والترك والعرب).
