علم الكلام الذي يبحث في إثباتِ العقائد الدينية والحِجَاجِ عنها؛ علمٌ جليل من أهم علوم الإسلام، وقد كان لعلماء الكلام ـ ولا يزال ـ الفضل في دفع عاديةِ كثيرٍ من الشبهات والطعون عن العقيدة الإسلامية. وقد قام في أوساط بعض المثقفين ثقافةً شرعيةً غيرَ رصينة مَن يُشكّك في مكانة علم الكلام، ويرى أنه كان قليل الجدوى فيما مضى، وأنّ الحاجة إليه في زماننا قد بطلت، مغمِضاً عينيه عن التاريخِ الطويل لهذا العلم والسيرةِ المشرقة لعلمائه الذين عمَّ نفعهم حتى غير المسلمين من روّاد الحقيقة.
وكان مما تعلّق به أولئك الزاعمون؛ بعضَ الكتابات لحجة الإسلام أبي حامدٍ الغزالي، في موضوع الذوق (الكشف)، وفي وصفه لرحلته من الشكّ إلى اليقين، فهموا منها فهماً مغلوطاً أنه يذمُّ الكلام والمتكلمين، مما حدا بالمؤلف ـ وهو باحثٌ متخصِّص في علوم الكلام والفلسفة والمنطق ـ إلى كشف النقاب عن تلك المزاعم، وتوضيح موقف حجة الإسلام من علم الكلام، وشرح كلامه في كتبه المختلفة شرحاً جلياً يُظهِر حقيقة موقفه الإيجابي من ذلك العلم، مقدِّماً لكتابه ببحوث في بيان مكانة علم الكلام وفضله، ملحقاً به تأملاتٍ كلاميةً في أحد أهم كتب أبي حامد: «المنقد من الضلال». وقد وقف المؤلف في بحثه عند عددٍ من القضايا الشائكة، ووُفّق في تجليتها، ليَخرج القارئُ من هذا الكتاب بفهمٍ مؤسَّس لموقف حجة الإسلام، وثقةٍ عالية بمكانة هذا العلم الجليل وفوائده الجمّة.
