كان التفكير قديماً لدى مؤسسة فلسطين للثقافة في أن تُخرج عملاً فنياً راقياً يوثق المسيرة الفنية التشكيلية الفلسطينية، ويبرز أهم محطاتها التي ترسم صورة الحياة الفلسطينية ولاسيما تلك التي صبغت هويتهم وجهادهم من أجل التحرير والانعتاق من الاحتلال.
ورغم أن الفن التشكيلي الفلسطيني حديث الميلاد مقارنة بالفنون التشكيلية الغربية إلا أن خصوصية ميلاده تجعله مختلفاً عن بقية بقاع إنتاجه، نظراً لأن ميلاده ارتبط بميلاد النكبة الفلسطينية وحركة التحرر من الاحتلال الصهيوني؛ ومعاني هذا الفن التشكيلي الفلسطيني معانٍ مستمدة من ظروف النكبة ولوازمها كالحفاظ على الهوية الوطنية والتمسك بالأرض والالتزام بمبدأ المقاومة ممزوجة بعواطف جياشة من عشق جامح، وغضب عارم واغتراب وحنين وتفاؤل وإصرار.
وهذه العناوين هي الأبرز من موضوعات الفن التشكيلي الفلسطيني ولذلك قدمنا للمثقف العربي والفلسطيني عبر هذا القاموس الفني "الألبوم البصري" نماذج فنية إبداعية رائعة لعدد من أبرز الفنانين الفلسطينيين الذين رسموا بدمهم لفلسطين وعاشوا لها وبها ومعها ومنها.
ونأمل أن نكون بهذا العمل الكبير قد قدّمنا إطلالة حضارية على نقوش تراثنا الفني التشكيلي الوطني الملتزم الجميل ليرى الناس إبداع الريشة الفلسطينية بلغة الريشة التي يفهمها كل ذي عينين مهما تفاوتت اللغات، في حشد فني نعتقد أنه الأول من نوعه في هذا الباب بهذه الصورة الأنيقة.
