من أكثر ما يشغل أذهان الناس عموماً هو موضوع "الأحلام البشرية" وكذلك موضوع الجنس وارتباطه بعملية الحلم، من هنا جاء اهتمام الكاتب "إسماعيل خليل إبراهيم" أن يكون واسطة تجوال في عالم الأحلام الغامضة والمثيرة، موضحاً فيه الكثير من نظريات الأحلام والتفسيرات المختلفة لها، حيث جعله موثقاً بمعلومات دقيقة ذات ثقافة علمية عن الأحلام والجنس، بهدف المعرفة والإطلاع، وعليه جاء الكتاب في فصلين:
الفصل الأول: للبحوث التميهيدية التي من شأنها أن تمهد للموضوع الأساسي، واشتملت: 1-متى وكيف ولماذا تحدث الأحلام؟ وهنا يتضمن الجواب وظيفة الأحلام والفائدة التي تتحقق من قيامها، والضرر إذا كان هناك حرمان منها، عالجها من عدة وجهات نظر منها ما هو روحاني ومنها ما هو نفسي، ومنها ما هو علمي مادي.
2-المنظور النفسي للأحلام، يدرس فيه الواقع النفسي الشخصي للفرد -تجاربه، حاجاته، مخاوفه، توقعاته، ويورد فيه رأي أفلاطون، فرويد والفرضيات التي ارتكز عليها في تفسير الحلم والنقد الذي وجه إليه. إضافة إلى المنظور النفسي للحلم عند الأقوام البدائية حيث لا حدود فاصلة بين الأحلام والواقع.
3-المنظور البايولوجي للأحلام، ويدرس فيه نظريات أرسطو، أرطما دوروس، ابن سينا، أما في العصور الحديثة، موري، ستروميل، وغيرهم.
4-محتوى الأحلام، يدرس فيه الصور الخيالية في الأحلام، وغلبة الصور البصرية، والانفعالات العاطفية واللغة الرمزية للحلم.
وجاء الفصل الثاني عن الأحلام والجنس، ويتضمن المواضيع التالية: المحتوى الجنسي للأحلام، ويدرس فيه العلاقة الوثيقة بين حياتنا الجنسية من ناحية وبين حياتنا العقلية أثناء الحلم والتي تعتبر أثناء الحلم امتداداً لحياتنا الجنسية والعقلية أثناء اليقظة، ويورد هنا تفسيرات فرويد، والرغبات المكبوتة والعلاقة الجنسية المحرمة والأ‘ضاء الجنسية والرموز الجنسية، ورأي الأبحاث العلمية في المحتوى الجنسي للأحلام، وأهم الفروق في الأحلام بين الجنسين وأخيراً تفسيرات دينية مدعمة بأمثلة من القرآن الكريم.
