اقتضت الحكمة الإلهية في الخلق أن تكون الشرائع والأديان التي أنزلت لهداية البشر وإرشاده وتكميله من النواقص المادية والمعنوية منقسمة في المجموعة إلى ثلاثة تشريعات تستوعب مكونات الإنسان وتغذي حاجاته؛ وهي: 1-العقائد، وهي تهذب الإنسان فكراً وعقلاً، وتسرج أمامه ضياء الحكمة والمعرفة، وتدلّه على الصواب والخطأ في الاعتقاد والفكر، وتبعده عن الجهل والخرافة، 2-الأخلاق، وهي تهذب النفوس، وتهديها إلى الصفات الفاضلة والملكات الخيّرة، وتميّزها عن مضاداتها من الخبائث، 3-الأحكام، وهي تهذبه في العلاقات والمعاملات، وتنظم حياته لدى التعامل مع الأشياء الخارجية المحيطة به. وعلى هذا فكل شريعة سماوية على اختلاف مراتبها إذا لم تنلها يد التحريف والتبديل قسم منها عقائد، وقسم ثانٍ منها أخلاق، وقسم ثالث منها أحكام.
ومدار البحث في هذين الكتابين في المجال الأول أي العقائد الذي هو من اختصاص المتكلمين، لأن مباحث الكتاب تدور حول الولاية التكوينية والتشريعية لأهل البيت عليهم السلام، وهو موضوع كلامي عقائدي لا يرتبط كثيراً بالأخلاقي والفقيه.
