ويحاول الدكتور عصام عيتاوي الوقوف وقفات تحليل لتاريخ حياته كما لمنهجه في الفكر على الصعد المتعددة التي كتب فيها، ولا شك في أن الكتابة عن الشيخ مغنية هي بحد نفسها تحدٍ؛ لما يتمتع به الرجل من موسوعية وجرأة علمية سمحت له بخوض عدد كبير من الميادين التي يصعب أن يخوضها رجل مثله، ولكن الكاتب قبل التحدي وخاض التجربة، وحاول أن يقدّم رؤيته إلى الشيخ مغنية لينظر من خلاله إلى البيئة التي كان يعيش.
ومن هنا تأتي هذه الدراسة في سياق علم إجتماع المعرفة، وهو العلم الذي يحاول تلمس آثار المجتمع والبيئة الإجتماعية في الأفكار التي يتبناها ويدافع عنها المفكر.
وقد انتهى الكاتب إلى نتائج مهمّة تلقي ضوءً على موضوع البحث وتكشف الكثير من رؤيته الفكرية والثقافية.
