جاء الكتاب محاولة للإجابة عن تساؤلات، وسعياً لرفع الستار عن مواضيع ثلاثة يمثّل أولها محور اهتمامنا عموماً وهاجسنا الذي يسكن الفكر والتفكير حتى نراه يشكّل مسارات قراءاتنا وتعاملنا مع المصنفات وهو المرأة أو بالتدقيق النظرة إليها. وثانيهما تلك الحلقة التي لم تعرف عبر التاريخ سوى الإنغلاق حيناً والإتساع أحياناً عديدة، حلقة من عُرفوا بصحابة محمد. وثالثهما تلك المؤلفات التي، وإن نقلت لنا حياة هؤلاء، فإنها نقلتها لنا برؤية هي مبلغ همنا.
فكان أن انصهرت هذه العناصر الثلاثة في تساؤل، هو مدار البحث، عائشة من خلال مدونة الحديث وكتب الطبقات: ما هي معالم صورتها وهي المرأة، وهي واحدة من حلقة من عُرفوا بالصحابة، وهي من اللواتي حظين بكثير من المصنفات في شأنها؟
إن اهتمامنا بالنظرة التي لاحقت المرأة في كثير من المصنفات انطلاقاً من النص القرآني ليس مرده انتماءنا لذات العالم، وإنما للشعور المتنامي بتحقيرها أحياناً كثيرة والسعي اللاهث إلى الرفع منها حيناً.
وكل غايتنا أن نسهم، وإن بالطرح، في رؤية جديدة لكل ما يتعلق بالمرأة وفي أمور رواية الأحاديث عن رسول السماء إلى الأرض محمد، خاصة وأن تمثل المسلمين لشخص نبيهم وسيرته متأثر بنماذج سابقة للإسلام أو غير إسلامية حادت بها عن الواقع وألحقتها في كثير من الأحيان بالأسطورة.
