تتبدى قيمة هذا الكتاب في أنه كتاب نظري وتطبيقي في آن معاً، فالكتاب في أحد أقسامه يقدم مهاداً نظرياً مهماً عن الموتيف، من حيث تعريفه وتجلياته في عدد من الأجناس الأدبية، أما الدرس التطبيقي فإنه يتسم بالتنوع، بمعنى انه يسعى إلى إمكانية توسيع دائرة استخدام هذا المنهج المقترح؛ لكي يشمل إلى جانب تطبيقه في مجال الأدب الشعبي، ذلك المجال الأساس الذي ارتبط به الموتيف، إمكانية تطبيقه في عدد من الأجناس الأدبية وغير الأدبية الأخرى، فالدراسة الأولى تمثل تطبيقاً للمنهج على التراث الأدبي المصري، من خلال كتاب "المكافأة" لأبن الداية، ثم ينطلق في بحث أخر؛ كي يطبقه في مجال المسرح الغربي، من خلال تجليات ابن عربي في الكتابات المسرحية ل"كالديرون"، و"دي لاباركا"، وأيضاً على مسرحية "إجازة" كذلك يقوم بتطبيق المنهج في مجال الرواية من خلال دراسة رواية "مائة عام من العزلة" لماركيز، وفي مجال الأوبريت من خلال دراسة أوبريت "العشرة الطيبة"، هذا إلى جانب تطبيقه في الأدب الشعبي، من خلال دراسة سيرة "الزبير سالم" ولقد جاءت التطبيقات عميقة، ومتماشية مع ما قام به المؤلف بطرحه في المهاد النظري.
