يتناول هذا الكتاب مفهوم البحث العلمي وتعريفه ومميزاته وأهدافه وطبيعته ثم يشير إلى أخلاقيات البحث العلمي وأهداف العلم والخصائص العامة للعلم مبينا أثر العلم والمعرفة في البحث العلمي وأما في الفصل الثاني فيبين اختيار موضوع البحث والمشكلة التي يتناولها البحث وفروضه والدراسات المرتبطة به مع تحليل البيانات والتمثيل.
ثم يشير في الفصل الثالث إلى أهمية الإحصاء في البحث العلمي معدداً المراحل الأساسية في البحث الإحصاء وأنواع الاستثمارات الإحصائية والمجتمع الإحصائي موضحاً الأخطاء الإحصائية وأثرها على البحث العلمي ثم جمع البيانات الإحصائية ووضع شروط لإعداد الاستمارة الإحصائية وبيان أساليب جمع البيانات الإحصائية منوها للأخطاء الشائعة في جمع البيانات الإحصائية وفي الفصل الرابع يلقي الضوء على منهج البحث الوصفي من حيث المنهج المسحي وأدوات المسح ومفهوم الاستبيان وخصائصه العامة إلى شروط الاستبيان الجيد وكيفية إعداده وإدارته وأهمية الملاحظة وذكر أنواعها بالإضافة إلى المقابلة الشخصية مبينا أنواعها ثم الانتقال إلى منهج دراسة الحالة موضحا الخطوات الرئيسية المستخدمة في دراسة الحالة وأهمية وأهداف ووسائل ومميزات دراسة هذه الحالة.
