عنى أهل العلم بتدوين سير الرجال وصنفوا الكتب في الترجمة لهم وذكر ولاداتهم ووفياتهم، إلا أن القليل منهم من أفرد النساء في كتاب. وربما كان مرد هذا إلى أن الشعيرات من النساء قد الحقن بكتب الرجال في ملاحق خاصة. وكتاب الروضة الفيحاء في تواريخ النساء. من الكتب القليلة التي خصت بالنساء.
ألفه ياسين بن خير الله الخطيب العمري واستمد المعلومات التي أوردها فيه من كتب التفسير والحديث والتراجم. وقد أراد أن يجمع فيه تواريخ الصالحات ونبذة في بعض النساء الصالحات. وقد رتبه على مقدمة ومقالتين وخاتمة المقالة الأولى ذكر النساء الصالحات، والمقالة الثانية في ذكر الصالحات والخاتمة في ذكر بعض أذكياء النساء مع فوائد وذكر أيام النحوسات والسعد.
وقد اعتمد محقق الكتاب في عمله على النسخة المصورة عن نسخة مكتبة المتحف العراقي، وقارنها بغيرها من النسخ المطبوعة، وصحح ما فيها من أخطاء نحوية ولغوية، إضافة إلى ما فيها من تصحيف وتحريف كما قام بمراجعة نصوص الكتاب من مصادر متنوعة، ثم ضبط ما احتاج إلى ضبطه في النص وأتم نواقص العبارات ما وسعه ذلك. وشرح بعض الألفاظ والتعبيرات، وضبط الآيات القرآنية الشريفة وعني بتخريج الأحاديث النبوية الواردة بالكتاب مشيراً إلى كل ذلك في الهامش. وعرف أيضاً بأعلام الكتاب وقدم لكل ذلك بدراسة عن المؤلف وعن الكتاب. وقام بعمل الفهارس التي ييسر على القارئ مهمة البحث والمراجعة لكل ما يبغيه.
