فرهاد دفتري (بالفارسية: فرهاد دفتری ) (بالإنجليزية: Farhad Daftary ) (و. 1938 م) هو أكاديمي إيراني يعمل في معهد الدراسات الإسماعيلية.
درس في إيران والولايات المتحدة وأوروبا وحاز الدكتوراه من جامعة كاليفورنيا عام 1971 م. انتسب عام 1988 م إلى معهد الدراسات الإسماعيلية وهو محرّر في موسوعة إيرانيكا.

مع بداية العقد الرابع من القرن الحالي (1930)، بدأت نصوص إسماعيلية صحيحة وموثوقة تظهر إلى الوجود، بعد أن كانت غائبة، على نطاق واسع من مجموعات خاصة من المخطوطات في اليمن وسورية وإيران وآسية الوسطى والهند مما أدى إلى إلقاء ضوء جديد على تاريخ الإسماعيليين وفكرهم في العصر الوسيط.
ويقوم الكتاب الذي بين أيدينا بتجميع عدد من نتائج التبحر العصري الأصلية في هذا الميدان. وتتناول فصول هذا الكتاب، وهي التي غطت موضوعات مختارة وتطورات لها علاقة بفترة ما قبل الفاطميين، والفترة الفاطمية والنزارية من التاريخ الإسماعيلي، تتناول مجالاً واسعاً ومنوّعاً من الموضوعات التي تراوحت بين قرامطة البحرين وعلاقاتهم بالفاطميين، والعقيدة الكوزمولوجية الأقدم للإسماعيليين، والتراث العلمي وتطور الفقه في ظل الفاطميين، إلى فهم الإسماعيليين "للآخر"، وأصول الحركة الإسماعيلية النزارية، ومنظور سلجوقي إلى النزاريين الأوائل، ونظرة جديدة حول الانتماءات الدينية لنصير الدين الطوسي، وتراث الجنان عند الإسماعيليين الهنود الخوجا.
وما هو بارز في هذا الكتاب في ما يتعلق بالدراسات الإسماعيلية المعاصرة، هو مساهمته في إظهار غنى التراث الأدبي "الإسماعيلي"، وتنوع خبراتهم السياسية-الدينية، إضافة إلى تراثهم الفكري.
