إن اختيار مريم مسعود الشحي "فراسة من نور" عنواناً لعملها الروائي الجديد يضفي على المرأة موازين ثقافية التصقت بها من حيث مشابهتها لبعض صفات الفراشة من ضعف وجمال وطيش، وهو ما يمكن تلمسه من صفات الشخصية الرئيسية في الرواية (رهف) التي تعد تجسيداً حقيقياً لأنماط موجودة بالفعل في المجتمع العربي.
وفي الرواية، يرفض (أحمد) فكرة أن تضع زوجته (رهف) مولوداً يقف حجر عثرة في طريق طموحاته، ويغير بنفس الوقت من جمال زوجته الذي يذهب نتيجة الحمل والولادة. تصر (رهف) على إنجاب الطفل ويكلفها ذلك طلاقها، يولد (يزن) الطفل، ولكن بعد ثلاثة أعوام ونيف يموت وبرحيله تدخل رهف في لجة (المرض النفسي) على الرغم من إيمانها من قضاء الله وقدره، حتى تدمن زيارة الطبيب النفسي. تتوالى الأحداث في الرواية حتى تنتهي بمشهد امرأة جديدة ناجحة تمتلك مجلة (العروبة الثقافية) وقد كتب في صفحتها الأولى: يحررها كل من د. رهف محمد والأستاذ يسار الشمالي ..."في تلك اللحظة لم تعد (رهف) أنثى الحزن الباذخ بل سيدة الإنجازات. تهتم بقضايا الآخرين وتتفاعل معهم وتعيش أحزانهم وأفراحهم وتأخذ بيدهم. بعد أن عثرت على الحب الحقيقي. "كان بلال لي زوجاً وأخاً وصديقاً وحبيباً نتقاسم الحياة فرحها ومرحها وحتى مرضها. كان نافذتي الجديدة المشرّعة على الحياة ...".
هذه الحكاية، تصطنع لها مريم الشحي خطاباً روائياً مألوفاً، قوامه السرد والحوار، ويتخلله لغة رشيقة، مباشرة مطعمة باللكنة الخليجية، ما يجعل الخطاب إطاراً مناسباً للحكاية.
كانت كل أغنيات الأرض تدور في رأسي، وكان يزن هو لحني الأجمل، الذي كنت أريد أن أعزفه حينئذ مع أوركسترا الوجع التي توسع حوضي وتقلصه من آن إلى أخر .
روايتي التي سطرتها هي سهر وحنق ورغبة وعناء، إذ كنت بين طلقة وأخرى، بين وجع وآخر، أتمدد أشهق بعمق أبكي وجع أمي حين ولادتي…
