الحاجة إلى معرفة النظرية وفهمها هي حاجة إلى معرفة موضوع المعرفة من حيث هو دلالة على كل؛ إنها حاجة إلى معرفة الجزء معرفة تجاوزه إلى الكل الذي يندرج فيه.
وهذا هو ما يجعل من النظرية حاجة علمية تخصيصاً لا معرفية بإطلاق، فالعلم هو الدلالة التي تَخُص إدراك الكلي وتمتاز به، ولهذا كان على العلم كي يكون علماً أن يحيط بأحوال المعلوم إحاطة تتصف بالوحدة والتعميم، وكانت المعرفة المتصفة بأقل من ذلك معرفة عامية لا علمية، أي معرفة لا تتحقق لها شروط العلم، سواء في إقتصارها على المعرفة بالجزئي، أم في وجهتها إلى الجانب العملي والتطبيقي، أم في تضاؤل قدرتها على النفاذ من الجزئيات إلى العموميات، ومن الواقعة العملية إلى البناء النظري الحاكم لها.
والحاجة إلى معرفة النظرية وفهمها حاجة إلى فعل النظر بالمدلول الذي يحيل على النظرية، أي الفعل العقلي الذي تحصل به صورة المنظور الكلية حصولاً إستدلالياً يرتهن إلى ذاتية أو خصوص، وليست حاجة إلى مضمون النظرية فحسب وما تنتجه من معلومات وتمثلات وصور ذهنية عن الموضوعات.
وهذا معنى يصنع أهمية للنظرية في تنظيم المعرفة العلمية وبنائها، وفي إحداث التقدم المطرد فيها بوصفه نتيجة لما هو في صلب النظرية وجوهرها من معالجة فعل النظر ومعاودة الفحص له وإمتحانه، فحصاً لا يقف عند التثبت من معقوليته بل يجددها وينفي الجمود عنها.
وما دام الأمر كذلك، فإن النظرية دلالة على أن المنهجية بقدر ما هي دلالة على العلمية، فلا منهج في البحث والدراسة لأي موضوع بلا مستند نظري، أي بلا صورة كلية عن الموضوع الذي يتجه إليه بالدراسة تتأسس عليها طريقة الفهم والتفسير والإستنتاج والادوات الإصطلاحية لذلك؛ أي يتأسس عليها المنهج.
هذه الرؤية المبدئية هي الخيط الناظم الذي يقوم عليه جهده هذا الكتاب، والعلّة التي تبرر جمع مادته وصياغة فصوله.
