ينطلق الكتاب الذي بين يدينا من تصور نظري محدد يتمثل في الأطر النظرية والمنهجية لعلم الاجتماع التنظيمي، مركزاً بالذات على المنظور السوسيولوجي الأشمل الذي يربط التنظيم الصناعي بالبيئة الأوسع، ويرصد التفاعل بينهما، ثم هو يسعى بعد ذلك إلى وصف وتشخيص مشكلات التنظيم الصناعي في فترة معينة بالذات.
والنموذج الذي خضع للدراسة الواقعية هو نموذج التنظيم الصناعي الكبير الحجم، والقديم نسبياً، والذي يمارس صناعة تقليدية بالنسبة للمجتمع المصري هي صناعة الغزل والنسيج، وذلك على أساس قدرة هذا النموذج على تمثيل أكبر عدد من المنظمات الصناعية، وكذلك أهمية وحيوية الدور الذي يلعبه في النظام الاقتصادي للمجتمع كلل، ومن ثم أهميته أيضاً بالنسبة لعلميات التنمية الاقتصادية. هذا وسيجد القارئ في هذا الكتاب العديد من النظريات والبحوث الواقعية وقد خضعت للاختيار والتحقيق الواقعي، كما سيجد أيضاً محاولات من أجل تحقيق فريد من الارتباط بين النظرية والبحث.
