بالرغم من مرور أكثر من 10 سنوات على ظهور الصحف الالكترونية إلا أنها ما زالت تعاني من أوجه قصور عديدة بعضها متعلق بنواحي تقنية والبعض الآخر متعلق بمشكلات في الاستخدام، والبعض الثالث متعلق بطبيعة القائمين بالاتصال بالموقع وتصوره عن الجمهور مما يؤثر في الكثير من القرارات المتعلقة ببناء وتنظيم وتصميم الموقع. والبعض الرابع متعلق برضاه عن العمل بالموقع وأثر ذلك في رغبته في تطوير الموقع.
ومن هنا تأتي أهمية هذا الكتاب في وقت انتشرت فيه مواقع الصحف الالكترونية فتكاد تملك كل صحيفة تقريبًا موقعًا على شبكة الانترنت، لكن هذه المواقع بحاجة إلى تطوير. يحاول هذا الكتاب تقديم رؤية متكاملة جديدة لتقويم مواقع الصحف الالكترونية، من منظور يسر الاستخدام الذي يعد جديدًا بالدراسات العربية. كما يسد هذا الكتاب نقصًا واضحًا في دراسات الجمهور إذ يوجه انتباه الباحثين والقائمين بالاتصال بالمواقع الالكترونية إلى أهمية معرفة الجمهور وبناء الموقع بالتركيز على المستخدم.
