هذه الكراسة نشرتها أولاً عام 1967م وهي تلخيص من كتابي المسمى - الدراسات الأدبية في نيجيريا - ألفته مع كتابي - الإسلام في نيجيريا - عام 1948م، وقد جمعت في تلك الدراسة تاريخ الكتابة العربية العلمية منها والفنية في هذه البلاد وجمعت تراجم العلماء والفقهاء والشعراء والكتاب مع تلك الدراسة مع إيراد ما تيسر من أساليبهم في الإنشاء بقدر ما سمح به الحال إذ الإحاطة بجميع ذلك غير ميسور وما لا يدرك كله فلا يترك جله.
وكنت ظللت أبحث عن الحلقات المفقودة من سلسلة هذا التاريخ من الكتب المخطوطة خصوصاً ما يتعلق ببلاد يوربا، وكان أملي وطيداً في العثور على ذلك فتأخرت في نشر البحث وقدمت هذا المصباح إذ لربما يعينني ظهوره على تكميل بحثي الذي بدأت حتى يخرج تام الحلقة ناضج الثمرة.
